questions and answers title

Q: How do you retain the weapon so well without retention devices?

A: Mitch Rosen Gunleather custom fits each holster to the piece required by the customer's order. There is no substitute for precise fitting (boning) to insure a secure fit and smooth draw. All of our outside-the-pants holsters are fitted so that the holster is indented into the ejection port, front of the trigger guard, and also firmly into the rear of the trigger guard. We have been doing this for over a decade. It is this trigger guard fitting that causes the weapon to "click" into the holster.

Q: Is there any advantage to horsehide?

A: There is absolutley no advantage to horsehide as a material for high-quality holster manufacture. All of our standard products are constructed of best quality cowhide. However, we do keep some horsehide in stock for those who have been successfully advertised to.

Bullhide a bunch of bull.

The latest fad among some gun belt makers is bullhide. Bullhide is an extremely low quality leather imported from Mexico at low cost. Bulls are killed for their hides at a much older age, and therefore the leather tends to be raggy and full of fat wrinkles (soft spots in the leather). You will observe that many bullhide belts have stiffening "inserts" in them to overcome the leathers deficiencies. This is completely unnecessary with best quality cowhide, and is clear evidence of bullhide's inferiority.

Q: Do you make combination holsters—such as one holster that can be worn both inside the pants and also outside the pants?

A: All of our holster designs take a great deal of time to develop and field test. It is difficult enough to manufacture a holster to perform one function correctly, let alone two! Don't be fooled by the lower quality products on the market that promise far more than they deliver.
